Girls Camp Badges

Last year for camp, I designed cute little 4x6 name badges.  It was survivor themed - and they changed color based on what tent they were in.
Out of privacy I put the big black blob over their names, but you get the picture.  There were also a few more colors - pink, yellow, orange, and we did preisthood leaders in hunter green.  Since it was survivor themed, we translated their names in hawaiian (at least the names we could find - and we made up the ones we couldn't!)  Then we inserted them into badge holders, and they wore them around their necks.  (You can find the badge holders here, and the lanyards here.)  We made little certification punch cards and they carried them in the back of the lanyards, and as they passed off certification, we checked it off.  It made it easier to know where the girls were at!  At the end of camp, we asked them to turn them back in so we could use them next year.  This year is stake camp, and the stake young women's presideny and camp director decided to use the same concept this year.  So I volunteered to make badges for camp this year, and I combined the idea of a punch card with a name badge.  These badges below are 4x6 size and are sized so you can print them off.  (Ps - if you are a member of my stake and reading this blog - the stake is furnishing these for you!  So save your pennies for something else!)

Girls Camp Crafts

As mentioned in my profile, I am currently the ward camp director.  I love it!  I love spending time with girls!  Might sound silly, but I have two boys (ages 6 and 2) and am married to the best boy of them all!  But with all the boys running around, I don't often get to spend time with girls.  I have 1 niece and 4 nephews (with another on the way!) So pink, frilly, cutsie things don't happen much around the hive!  This year is stake girls camp and I am so excited!  The theme is "Daughter of a King" and that allows me to be cute and pink and princessy all at the same time.  But I have been trying to find crafts that are theme related.  I didn't just want to do princess stuff.  So . . . in searching thru pinterest (my sinfully guilty pleasure) I have stumbled onto a few ideas that I adapted and designed for my own personal use.  I'm way excited about these!

I found the art for this temple inspired design here.  The photographer is a wonderful lady who believes that all families should be able to afford to have artwork in their home - and she has some amazingly beautiful temple pictures available for free!  I too feel that we should all be able to collaborate and provide things for our youth and our families with little to no cost.  So I will never charge for designs!  Feel free to use my images, just please link back to my site.  Truthfully, I have seen other ideas on other blogs, but I didn't like the font used in any of them - so I downloaded the art and designed changed it up.

This is a 5x7 and should be high resolution enough to upload to your favorite photo printing site and get some quick 1 hour prints.  I'm thinking of having the girls modge podge this onto some painted wood, and then we'll hang some ribbon on it.  But!  I'm torn!  I found this great subway art here.  But, it was 8x10 and I really didn't want to spend the money getting an 8x10 for all my girls.  So I downsized, and designed a 5x7 version.  All my girls were repinning this on Pinterest - so I think they will find this one a hit!

Again, the idea would be to paint a block white . . . or pink . . . probably white . . . and then hang it with a pretty ribbon, probably pink!  Feel free to download and print off as many as you need!  Ps - these are 5x7 too!  The best part is, these crafts won't cut into my budget much!  I'll probably "bee" into them around $1 a piece.

Ok! So I decided to blog . . .

I have to admit - I am new to blogging!  And we are going to give this a shot.  If you're looking for a daily dedicated blogger, you are following the wrong gal!  But Lately, I'm oozing with creativity.  I like that word - oozing.  Fits nicely with the name of my blog!  I chose the Glamorous Beehive for a few reasons - first, I love the word glamorous - and second, I like the concept of a beehive.  Bees are amazing little bugs!  I first became interested in the concept of beehives when we did Young Women in Excellence night in January.  We based the night off an article in the New Era, you can find it here:
  http://www.lds.org/new-era/2011/11/bees-beehives-and-you?lang=eng&query=beehives
The article states that all bees that work in, and out of the hive are women.  And amazingly, a bee will produce 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey throughout its entire lifespan.  It takes an entire colony of bees working together to produce something great.  Here in my hive, my goal is to bee-come something great, and to teach my children that together we will accomplish great things.  But only if we work together as a family and as a team.
